About PGCMA
Purpose
The purpose of PGCMA is to promote through investigation, discussion,
and cooperative effort the interest and welfare of the municipalities
of Prince George's County and its citizens, to preserve the powers
of municipalities, to improve the enforcement of local ordinances,
to consider or act upon all matters of common interest to the municipalities
in Prince George's County, to take positions on and work for legislation
to promote the interests of the municipalities, and to strive for
closer relations among citizens and towns, Prince George's County,
the State of Maryland and other governmental bodies.
What We Do
PGCMA, through its committee structure and monthly meetings, focuses
on working with members to achieve the following goals:
Diversity
PGCMA develops strategies for promoting diversity within PGCMA,
among the member municipalities, and within MML.
Membership Development
PGCMA, with cooperation of the Maryland Municipal League (MML),
provides training opportunities for newly elected officials.
Public Relations/Promotions
PGCMA develops and implements membership strategies aimed at increasing
participation at PGCMA meetings and events and recommends public
relations initiatives.
Legislative Action
PGCMA identifies issues of concern to member municipalities and
formulates county and/or state legislation to address those issues. It
also promotes legislative goals and coordinates the lobbying efforts
to achieve those goals.
Interaction With Legislators
PGCMA interacts with county and state legislators by means of personal
contact, an annual legislative dinner, and frequent visits to Annapolis
and Upper Marlboro
Education/Scholarships
PGCMA monitors education issues in Prince George's County and
awards scholarships to municipal residents.
