The federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), constitutes the nation’s largest ever investment in American infrastructure, and many of these funding opportunities are available to municipalities. The IIJA created nearly 400 distinct funding opportunities, from broadband internet to clean water infrastructure programs, to resilience, and more. It contains opportunities for local governments to invest in its critical infrastructure while providing well-paying jobs. Notably, these programs are designed to be accessible to all communities, with carve-outs for small and disadvantaged communities, and programs targeted to rural local governments. These programs can be great ways to fund your municipality's future.
To help Maryland’s cities and towns navigate these opportunities, the Maryland Municipal League is partnering with Maryland’s Technical Assistance Program to host a one-hour roundtable discussion where municipal officials can access expertise from Technical Assistance Program staff and network with fellow municipal officials on best practices, identification of needs, and partnership opportunities.
The IIJA Roundtables will take place virtually on Tuesday, March 28 from 12:00-1:00 p.m., and you can register here. Contact MML’s Education Services Department at tomr@mdmunicipal.org or stacies@mdmunicipal.org for more information.
