To receive American Rescue Plan grants, all municipalities must have a valid DUNS number. A DUNS number is a unique nine-character number used to identify an organization and is issued by Dun & Bradstreet. The federal government uses the DUNS number to track how federal money is allocated.
A DUNS number is required prior to registering with the System for Award Management (SAM) database, which is a requirement for all counties and metropolitan cities receiving money directly from the Treasury. Funds for non-entitlement units of local government will be delivered to and allocated through the State of Maryland. Non-entitlement municipalities, however, will still need to obtain a DUNS number.
Registering for a DUNS number is free of charge. If your municipality does not have a valid DUNS number, please visit https://fedgov.dnb.com/webform/ or call 1-866-705-5711 to begin the registration process. Complete details are available on the U.S. Treasury's Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund page.
