Remembering Our Veterans

Cities and towns all throughout Maryland had events on Monday to honor those who have served our country.  Examples include Leonardtown, which hosts one of the larges Veterans Day Parades in the mid-Atlantic and the city of Colmar Manor which held a ceremony at the Bladensburg Peace Cross.

"If I were Mayor..." Essay Contest

This year's MMA sponsored essay contest theme will be "Reimagine tomorrow"  Promotional materials are mailed next week to all cities and towns, so be on the lookout.  In the meantime, you can start talking to your local schools about how you could help promote the contest.  Resources are also available on the MML website.

MML's 2020 Legislative Priorities

At this year's Fall Conference, the MML body voted to adopt theire legislative priorities for the upcoming General Assembly. The two major issues are protecting local government authority as it relates to 5G small cell wireless facilities and updating the Highway User Revenue laws to ensure consistency in future funding. All the specifics can be viewed on the MML website.  

New Mayors

Newest Mayors in Maryland

Both the cities of Bowie and Greenbelt elected new Mayors this month.  Tim Adams was elected as Bowie's Mayor and Colin Byrd was elected as Greenbelt's Mayor.  Mr. Adams replaces the retiring Fred Robinson who had served as Bowie's mayor for 20 years!

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland and Governor Ralph Northam of Virginia announced a bi-state, bipartisan accord to create a new, unified Capital Beltway, replace the aging American Legion Bridge, and relieve congestion at one of the country’s worst traffic chokepoints. Bladensburg Mayor encourages residents to vote in local elections.

Last month, Mayor Takisha James took action to stress the importance of local elections and make voting fun at the same time.  View the segment starting at at min. 2:57 in this Prince George's Community Televisions broadcast.

Mayor Pat Mahoney

Mayor of Chesapeake Beach Appointed to the Critical Area Commission

Mayor Patrick “Irish” Mahoney was appointed by Governor Hogan to serve a four-year term, as a member of the Critical Area Commission for the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays. Mayor Mahoney will continue to serve the Town of Chesapeake Beach as Mayor during this appointment.  Full Article.
